You will most likely have to set up an appointment to fill out paper work and drop off your cats--if you're local shelter can't accommodate you, ask for referrals to other groups.
To prepare for surrendering your cats, I suggest you contact your veterinarian for a copy of their medical records. Another great thing you can do is type up individual descriptions for each cat--quirks, preferences, likes, dislikes, and other details about your cats' personalities, as this will improve their chances of finding the right home.
